MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Facilities-Repair and Maintenance, to perform a wide variety of duties directly related to the servicing, maintaining, repairing, and renovation of buildings and associated systems. These duties fall within the range of work normally performed by carpenters, electricians, plumbers, mechanics et. al., but do not require the skills of a journeyman or a licensed tradesperson. Will serve--on a rotating basis--as a contact person for customers and central shop and as a facilitator of meetings to discuss team jobs and priorities; and assist other team members with the planning of all work including the evaluation, prioritization, and execution of repair orders and the planning and performance of preventative maintenance.
REQUIRED: minimum of five years' directly relevant experience in the maintenance and repair of building components, fixtures, and systems; demonstrated proficiency in the skills required for the position and described above; ability to use all of the common hand and power tools, communicate in the English language, and assist other tradespeople as needed; and a valid driver's license. Environment contains dust, odors, fumes, high noise levels, and temperature extremes. Position involves moving, remaining stationary, and working while bending and stooping for extended periods; ascending/descending stairs; working from ladders, scaffolds, and other above ground locations such as roofs; using scissor lifts, articulating lifts, and bucket trucks; and wearing personal protective equipment and MIT-provided ARC flash rated clothing as required; performing near steam and moving machinery and in tight areas and confined spaces such as manholes and crawl spaces; and working with and around chemicals and solvents. Some work is performed in research labs and animal facilities and outdoors in inclement weather.
The schedule for the position is Monday through Friday, 3:00 to 11:00 P.M., but must be available to work all shifts as required.
