The Digital Library of the Middle East (DLME) project is an international effort, gathering digital resources of Middle East and North African (MENA) material from providers around the world. This initiative will create the first seamlessly interoperable, large-scale digital library of cultural artifacts from the region. Working as part of Stanford Libraries' digital library systems & services unit, the Data Manager & Project Coordinator will form part of an inter-institutional, grant-funded team. S/he will coordinate DLME data acquisition, data management, and day-to-day operations of the record harvesting and indexing pipeline. S/he will also provide technical support for digital library access tools to power and end users. As new data providers are identified by the Lead Curator and curatorial team, the Data Manager & Project Coordinator will work with them to acquire or harvest the metadata, map it to the DLME schema, and put content through the pipeline. For providers without their own repository, the Data Manager will help acquire and ingest the materials into SDR or other IIIF-compatible repository. This role will also work with the curatorial lead to ensure data agreements are in place and tracked, and perform ongoing QA of both data and site functionality.
Manage week-to-week contact with data providers from other libraries, archives and museums around the world; support the curatorial and software engineering teams with project coordination support.
For each data source, review project plans and proposals, and work with management to develop project objectives; identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project; calculate time frames and sequence the stages of the project.
Oversee, coordinate, and perform data acquisition, ingest, indexing and QA from various sources, with support from the Technical Project Manager and software engineering team.
Review, evaluate, approve, and monitor cost schedule and technical scope baselines.
Ensure the preparation of required project documentation.
Contribute to communication plan and change management elements. * - Other duties may also be assigned
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience, and two years of directly related experience performing responsibilities similar to those listed above or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
Ability to productively contribute to cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risks, and procurement components.
Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities May Include:
Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects, such as data management and command line / scripting skills, as well as quality assurance.
Bibliographic or reading knowledge of Arabic, Persian, and/or other MENA languages is strongly desired.
Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand.
Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.
