This position is responsible for performing journey-level facilities maintenance tasks with limited direct and indirect supervision in one or more fields: carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation (HVAC), plumbing, mechanics, etc. To perform this job successfully, an applicant must be able to perform all or acceptable combinations of the essential duties satisfactorily and exhibit understanding and support of the mission and goals of the School in personal conduct and interaction with others.
This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:
Coordinates responses to all facility work orders originating from building users, using established processes.
Assists in the maintenance and repair of electrical lines and fixtures as well as plumbing and HVAC systems.
Helps with renovations and new construction, including painting, demolition and set up
Inspects buildings and other structures to determine proper functionality of systems; detects problems or malfunctions and makes needed repairs; notes and makes recommendations using industry-established methods.
Performs minor electrical maintenance to including but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., wall switches, outlets, lighting, ballasts, fuses, minor appliances, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, installing new lines, etc.).
Performs minor patching, carpentry, masonry and hardware work (e.g., preparing surfaces, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).
Prepares surfaces and paints or applies coatings to various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, outdoor furnishings, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintains a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.).
Reconfigures seating systems by installing, positioning, and remounting office furnishings (e.g. furniture, theater seating, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
Maintains required documents, records, work orders.
Performs general cleaning.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Three years of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or one year of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work in a formal environment
Three years of related technical work experience is required. Related experience could entail construction, plant engineer, facility management, or related military duty
Completion of a trade school program preferred
Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and carpentry is a plus
Technology user skills sufficient to prepare reports in Excel and Word
Ability to adapt behavior to function effectively in the institution’s culture, including those specific to the tradition of the school

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
