Job Description Summary Provide high quality and responsive service in the maintenance, repair and installation of the campus buildings roofing and waterproofing. This position will lead a crew of two to five employees consisting of trades workers, maintenance mechanics and helpers. They must be able to review plans and estimator's projections for correctness after evaluating on-site conditions and make the necessary adjustments. Work consists of roof inspecting, roofing repairs and replacements, as well as waterproofing above and below grade and caulking windows. Knowledge in single ply BUR, modified, bitumen, metal, slate and shingle roofing systems and downspouts and the tools and material to properly repair each system. Must have knowledge in above and below grade waterproofing systems such as control joints, resealing windows and repairing or replacing below grade waterproofing membrane with appropriate materials. Some general carpentry may be necessary. This position will assist other trades whenever necessary.
Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday
Other Work / Responsibilities This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
The Roofer knows and functions in at least one other trade and possesses general knowledge of others. Assists other trades as required.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
North Carolina driver's license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with supervisors and the public. Understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
Working knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the roofing/waterproofing trade.
The primary functions of the position require the ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Prefer three to five years' experience in maintenance and repair of commercial roofing systems and water proofing foundations.
