Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Project Engineer – QA/QC & Commissioning for IPO- Project Services Division. This position is under the guidance of the Assistant Director, QA/QC & Commissioning. The Project Engineer is a professional role that oversees the design and construction of capital projects, major interior renovations, additions, new building construction, major equipment replacement and installation within Project Services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Reviews project documents, conducts field inspections and verifies in place construction activity and provides technical inspections for Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire-Protection, Site Work & Site Utility construction.
Responsible for filling out reports and conducting audits.
Procures and manages commissioning services and conducts inspections required for in-house new building commissioning and manages projects.
Monitors specific discipline (ie., site & site utilities, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, building envelope, civil, roofing etc..) and ensures the construction is in compliance with the construction documents during the construction process.
Provides reporting of the construction process, workmanship and any defects observed. Work with the code official to ensure contractor complies with codes.
Reviews change orders, submittals and construction documents, monitor and ensure contractor provides appropriate construction documentation in the University's construction management system.
Ensures the closeout and documentation process is completed. This includes but is not limited to scheduling equipment training, O&M manual documentation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of five (5) years experience in the construction industry in a supervisory field role and experience with construction technology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
CAD experience required.
Familiarity with codes and construction sequencing and OSHA.
Must be able to review drawings and be familiar with all disciplines.
Must be very familiar with all aspects of the design process, be able to direct the work of other team members, evaluate options, and make sound decision.
Familiar with BIM360 docs and the project management suite.
Must have a good understanding of the construction management of major interior renovations, additions and new buildings.
Professional Engineering License
Prefers ten (10) years experience in the construction industry in a supervisory field role.
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, BIM 360 docs
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Extensive walking all year round on the construction site in order to complete daily inspections.
Lifting and walking is required.
Activities related to working on a construction site.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
