This position will install, repair, or replace low and steep sloped roofing systems including tile, slate, shingle and metal roofing systems including hot, cold and specialty roofing systems. Install, repair, replace or troubleshoot all types of flashing systems. Evaluates and solves leakage, drainage, damp-proofing and waterproofing problems using conventional and non-destructive evaluation techniques including epoxy injections. Clean, install, repair or replace gutters, downspouts and sumps. Operates manual and power roofing equipment such as shears, de-roofers, roofing saws, hot bitumen mopping equipment, stoning and de-stoning equipment, grinders, caulking gun, hot kettles, fume recovery system and power hoists. Perform general rigging as required. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications. Requisition equipment, materials, and parts. Estimate time and materials to be used on the job. Stock, maintain, and may operate a University service vehicle.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience; five years experience in the trade; or successful completion of an applicable trade specific Trades Helper program or completion of an approved apprenticeship program; and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification; expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade; expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal); possession of a valid State of Michigan vehicle operator's license; must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification; must furnish own hand tools; frequent lifting over 75 pounds.
Seven years experience in the trade; experience with low and steep sloped roofing systems including tile, slate, shingle and metal roofing systems including hot, cold and specialty roofing systems; experience flashing systems; experience evaluating and solving leaks; experience damp-proofing and waterproofing; experience with epoxy injections.

Required Application Materials
