Performs journeyman level structural trades work related to general building and equipment maintenance, including carpentry, masonry, tiling, painting, and glazing. Incumbent to receive general directions and instructions from supervisor and must exercise independent and sound judgement to prioritize and complete work.
Carpentry Duties: Performs general repairs to buildings and equipment; repairs, replaces and constructs framing for doors, walls, floors, windows, buildings and structures including sheet rocking and plastering; is a first responder dealing with issues with roofs (e.g. stopping leaks) installs and repairs various types of wood cabinets, counters, and shelving; repairs stairways; repairs furniture; installs wall board; maintains carpentry equipment and tools.
Painting Duties: Applies paints, varnishes and lacquers by using brushes, roller or spray equipment; prepares work by cleaning surfaces; patches, fills, tapes, tops textures and sands as required for painting; may mix paint; paints building exteriors and interiors; maintains painting equipment, inventory, and tools.
Glazing Duties: Install and repairs glass in windows, skylights, display cases, or similar., and as a first responder make safe issues with building fronts, interior walls, ceilings. Fabricate or install metal sashes or moldings for glass installation. Cut, fit, install, repair, or replace glass or glass substitutes, such as plastic or aluminum, in building interiors or exteriors or in furniture or other products. Apply window sealant and/or caulking as necessary.
Masonry/Tiling/Plastering Duties: Mixes cement and concrete. Performs concrete work such as forming, repairing sidewalks, pads for equipment, stairways and curbing, repairing foundations and retaining walls (plain or reinforced), etc. Prepares and sets forms. Applies plastering materials to walls, ceilings, piers and columns. Plasters partition walls and patches plaster walls with limited areas of damage. Tapes sheet rock and repairs damaged sheet rock walls. Repairs, replaces, or installs new tiles as needed.
Assist in event setups on campus as directed
Observes safety rules and regulations.
Orders supplies necessary for completion of work orders.
Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
May lead and instruct helpers as required.
Maintains clean work area and/or clean job site upon completion of assignment.
High School Diploma/GED
Must have four years work experience in the Structural Trades.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of the structural trades and techniques, and the ability to apply the same skillfully.
Must be able to read and interpret Service Orders and instructions.
Ability to meet and effectively deal with others in the University community.
Must be able to understand and follow standard procedures, and read blueprints.
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operatorâ™s license.
Must possess own hand tools and be knowledgeable in the care and use of tools and woodworking machinery.
Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and possess the physical strength to perform strenuous work both indoors and outside.
Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs throughout the duration of the shift.
Final candidate required to successfully pass a criminal and DMV background check.
