The Laborer performs labor work by assisting with the maintenance of roofs, grounds, sidewalks, pavement, patios, garages, equipment and landscaped areas as part of the services provided by the Facilities Management department to maintain university buildings and grounds. S/he is assigned to maintenance group and performs semi-skilled labor work in accordance with industry/trade practices. The incumbent uses all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observes all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing their duties, and is considered to be an emergency employee that will be required to report to work during inclement weather and help in the removal of snow. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager as part of the maintenance team that receives training and experience vital to the maintenance of exterior and garage spaces on the campus, the Laborer has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
Performs labor work to ensure a pleasant appearance of the Law Center 's buildings and grounds.
As assigned or scheduled, performs semi-skilled tasks associated with policing of grounds, moving, and arranging furniture.
Works with crews responding to requests for service by performing cleanup, snow removal, and similar activities.
Ensures efficient and economic use of supplies and materials to conserve university resources.
Draws and/or requisitions supplies, parts, materials and tools needed and uses such items economically to avoid undue costs.
Informs supervisor of supply/ material needs to ensure that adequate inventory is maintained.
Suggests improvements in the work to improve unit operations.
Provides supervisors with advice and suggestions regarding work methods, procedures, parts, tools, and related matters for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and cost of service.
Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma
Valid driver's license from Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia and must conform to University Driving Policy
Two years of experience performing general grounds work
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
