Would you like to be part of a team that supports a project to modernize the network at Princeton University? Do you enjoy being physically active in your work? Would you like to get experience working on a network installation that uses state-of-the-art network technologies and current best practices? If so, the central IT organization at Princeton University is seeking a number of Network Installer Assistants. In this role, you will support technicians and business administration personnel accomplish a wide variety of tasks that relate to the multi-year, network modernization project known as Next Generation Network.
The Network Installer Assistant role is a 7-month, casual-hourly position that starts in February 2020 and ends August 2020. We are looking to hire five temporary Network Installer Assistants.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Pulling cables through ceilings and wall cavities, through conduit and in cable tray
Assisting network installers by moving materials and equipment to working locations
Escorting contractors as they work in occupied dorms and providing them access to dorm rooms and equipment closets
Basic mechanical skills, with the ability to operate power drills and saws
Ability to perform physically active work for 3-hour stretches, without sitting
Ability to work beyond the standard 8-hour day
Ability to stand or walk 2 to 4 hours at a time for a total of 6 to 8 hours a day, or more when needed
Ability to sit for less than 2 hours during an 8-hour or longer day, when needed
Ability to push and pull using forces of up to 100 pounds (less than 33% of the workday)
Ability to frequently use hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, or pulling (34 to 66% of the workday)
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs or ladders, reach or lift overhead, knee-stand, push or pull, and use a hammer drill occasionally (less than 33% of the work day)
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds in a range of motion from floor to overhead
Ability to lift or carry up to 75 pounds in a range of motion from floor to chest height (less than 33% of the workday)
Ability to work outdoors in a range of environmental conditions and temperatures
Climb up to four flights of stairs, climb up to 24-foot ladders, and work on roof tops
Ability to work in crawl spaces, attics, basements, manholes, or steam tunnels in awkward positions for periods of up to 4-hours at a time;
Possess physical agility, full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance.
High school diploma, or GED equivalent
