Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Planner Estimator for the The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). This position initiates, plans, and coordinates work orders for the repair, maintenance, changes and additions to the University Facilities. Maintains liaison with the department facilities coordinators, discussing individual problems and request with heads of all University departments.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Liaisons with the department facilities coordinators, discussing individual problems and request with heads of all University departments.
  • Initiates, directs and plans preventive maintenance programs for buildings and equipment.
  • Prepares estimates for departmental projects and maintains control of the project to completion.
  • Conducts acceptance inspections of contractors and in-house work.
  • Coordinates periodic inspection of assigned facilities to determine short range and long range maintenance and repair requests.
  • Prepares responses and administers status of fire code violations, life safety projects and building code compliance issues.

    Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in institutional project work or maintenance field.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to read blueprints, write specifications, and develop project costs.
  • Good communication, organizational, and customer service skills; and computer literacy in industry standard software are also required.
  • Must be able to develop project specifications, write project justifications, and develop project costs.
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum Ten (10) years' experience in building trades with minimum of five years' extensive experience in mechanical/electrical repair and maintenance field.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    The incumbent must understand that at times additional duties will be required.
    These physical requirements are as follows:

  • Climbing ladders or roof access points in excess of 12 or more feet
  • Working in harsh environments including Labs, Construction sites and/or mechanical rooms
  • Working outside in varying temperature degrees and elements
