The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.

Responsibilities At Journeyman level, performs all phases of carpentry tasks such as wall erection, door and frame installation and wood product fabrication that may involve plastic laminating. The work involves reading and interpreting plans, sketches and shop drawings. Familiarity working in an environment where infection prevention is extremely important. Perform preventative maintenance annually, semi annually, monthly, weekly on critical and/or life safety equipment and other duties assigned by supervisor deemed necessary for the hospital to function at the highest level possible.
Experience and skills to perform all functions of cabinetry and carpentry trades.
Experience reading and interpreting sketches, drawings and blueprints.
Experience reading and correcting terminology of building trades.
Experience with installation of seismic restraints/anchoring.
Experience keeping accurate record accounts of labor time and material costs.
Experience observing the safety policies and guidelines set up by the department.
Experience handling telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy and respect for patient confidentiality.
Ability to twist and turn upper body in equipment operations.
Must have a good body mobility for stooping, pushing, carrying and reaching.
Incumbent must have physical stamina to work in inclement weather (hot/cold), confined spaces, from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, etc.
Must be able to see well enough to read written work instructions, technical manuals, drawings, sketches, etc.
Must speak well enough to communicate with co-workers, peers, customers and managers.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb a vertical ladder to the height of approximately 50 feet.
Must be able to work scheduled/unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts and available during off duty periods by telephone.
Shift rotates through a day and swing shift.
This position participates in a rotational swing shift position for a 3-month period.
Required to participate in UCDMC surveillance and physical examinations, i.e., TB testing, audiograms, etc.
This position does not permit smoking inside University buildings or vehicles.
Valid California Drivers License in good standing.
This is a critical position and subject to a background check.
Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
This position may be required to work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekends.
Shift rotates through a day and swing shift.
This position participates in a rotational swing shift position for a 3-month period on a 4 day/10-hour shift.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
