MAINTENANCE MECHANIC , Facilities-Repair and Maintenance , to perform a wide variety of duties directly related to the servicing, maintenance, repair, and renovation of buildings and associated systems. These duties fall within therange of work normally performed by carpenters, electricians, plumbers, mechanics, et al., but do not require the skills of a journeyman or a licensed tradesperson. Will, on a rotating basis, assist other team members with the planning of all work includingthe evaluation, prioritization, and execution of repair orders and the planning and performance of preventative maintenance.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : five years' directly relevant experience in the maintenance and repair of building components, fixtures, and systems and demonstrate proficiency in the skills required for the position; a valid driver'slicense; and a certified pool operator's license. Must be able to function as part of a team, use all common hand and power tools, communicate in the English language, lift up to 50 lbs., assist other tradespersons as needed, and work an irregular schedule. Position involves ascending/descending stairs, traversing the campus, moving about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment, and/or remaining stationary for extended periods of time; working from ladders, scaffolds, and other above-ground locationssuch as roofs; using scissor lifts, articulating lifts, and bucket trucks; wearing personal protective equipment as required by the specific assignment; and wearing MIT-provided ARC flash rated clothing. Environment contains dust, odors, and fumes, high levelsof noise and temperature extremes. Work is performed near steam and moving machinery and in tight areas and confined spaces such as manholes and crawl spaces, with and around chemicals and solvents, in research labs and animal facilities, and outdoors ininclement weather.
Employees who are assigned to an irregular shift are considered essential personnel in accordance with the MIT Policy on Emergency Closing or Early Release. During emergencies, these employees are excused from their regularly scheduled work only with thespecific authorization of their supervisor, regardless of any public announcement that the Institute is closed. Other employees, who work a regular established work schedule, are not considered essential personnel but may be required to work other shiftson an as-needed basis.
MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntarytransfer to another classification or seniority unit.
