DETAILS OF THE ROLE
Your focus would be on the following:
Meet sales goals
Accurately deliver estimates
Develop and maintain excellent relationship with our clients
Scope of Work
Create estimates, proposals and obtain material prices for projects as assigned
Create a Project File
Download Project (i.e. Invitation to Bid, Drawings, Specifications, Addenda, all other project information)
Review Specifications and create a project bid requirement checklist (i.e. Bid Bond, Company Qualifications, other documents and forms required to be submitted with proposal)
Create a Bid in the “Edge Estimating System”
Download roof drawings in the “Edge”
Complete Take-Off (Labor & Material)
Input prices in the Edge Estimate (Obtained prices from manufacture reps or distributors)
Tweak labor prices (Labor prices are already in the Edge as a Default but must be “tweeked” for the specific project
Some projects (depending on the scope, difficulty and cost) are reviewed with other members on the estimating team just as a method to make sure our estimate is complete (not missing overlooked items or other issues)
Upon completion on the estimate complete the proposal (listing our scope of work and what is included, price & our exclusions and what is not included)
Submit proposal to GC/Owner or whomever is receiving the bids (some projects I have bid have been submitted to 16 GC’s bidding the same project)
Follow up with the GC’s to determine if we are low or in the ballpark
If we are low the GC will want to do a scope review to make sure we have everything included.
Estimators that are local (Dallas office) must sometimes attend Pre-Bid Meetings and site visits. Site visits may require taking measurements, photos, videos and roof cores (cores determine what materials are existing, thickness of said materials) looking ate areas on the ground to determine areas to store materials, areas hindered by landscaping, sidewalks, etc.
Attending weekly estimating department meetings, receiving assignments, etc.
Assisting Jr. estimators in completing their estimates, reviewing said estimates
Completing additional work estimates (proposed change orders) requested by the GC/Owner, Castro Project Manager, Castro Service Department

Bachelor’s Degree or above preferred
Familiar with different commercial roofing systems and manufacturers
The EDGE estimating software a plus.
Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, client sketches as well as ability to design roofing solutions
Must have high mathematics and logical aptitude
This is not totally a direct and mechanical process, but one that is creative and demands a high level of concentration, mental effort, and judgment.
Must demonstrate competence in measuring techniques and possess a good general knowledge of economics
You need to have a natural talent to start and finish projects on time
Must be highly detail oriented and can solve problems with little guidance
You’ll Really Knock Our Socks Off If You….
You know what “get it right” really means, and you embrace it.
You have a Jedi-like talent for estimating.
You are a “roofing wizard.”
Your word is your contract.
You have a natural gift for accuracy and details.
